About Vedetta
You are considering handing a stranger on the internet the job of telling you when something is burning near your house. That is a reasonable thing to be careful about, so here is who the stranger is.
Who builds it
Vedetta is built and operated by Nikola Buchkov, from Sofia, Bulgaria. It is a small, independent product rather than a venture-funded one, and it is not a side project of a larger alerting company. When you email support, the reply comes from the person who wrote the code.
Why it exists
The gap Vedetta fills is a specific one. Public fire data is genuinely excellent — NASA and the European Commission publish it openly, and anyone can look at a map. But nobody is watching that map at three in the morning on your behalf, and the official warning systems are designed for the people who live in a region, not for an owner who is currently two thousand kilometres away.
So the news arrives socially: a neighbour, a caretaker, a message the next morning. The hours in between are the ones worth buying back. That is the entire product.
How we work
Two commitments shape most of the decisions here. The first is that we would rather be trusted than oversold: every alert shows what we saw and when, and the sources page lists what each satellite cannot see. The second is that we inform and authorities instruct — Vedetta does not issue all-clears and does not tell you what to do. It points you at the people whose job that is.
